My husband and I have now been together for 5yrs this year. In our first year of say dating, we used condoms to prevent pregnancy. Later that year he suffered a lung collapse. His doctors then put him on steroids. After a few minutes months they discovered he had diabetes too.
Year two - we had our medicals and when we found were 'clean' then started using withdrawal as means of prevention. He then proposed and year 3 we got married. We decided to wait a year before trying f ... or a baby as we had just started living together and still were paying things off from our wedding.
After our first wedding anniversary, we then consultated with a gynaecologist to start trying for a baby. After tests she gave us the go ahead and advised that if after 3 months we weren't pregnant yet we should come back for more tests. So after 4months of trying and no conception we went back in. She had me do a pap smear, ultrasound, hormone test and the dye test. All my results we're good. Then it was my husband's turn. We found out he has a low sperm count, which could be as a result of years of taking steriods (his lung still hasn't fully recovered / increased in size). And referred us to a urologist who gave him sperm boosting supplements, he said there was hope that we still could convieve. He also said my husband has a small lump in one of testies. He said if after 6months lapses and we haven't conceived we should go back. I just had my last of six fertile window and already anxious about the results. I'm worried about the effect the diabetes can hamper all our chances of ever having a family.. I can't talk to any of our friends or family because he doesn't want anyone to know about his diabetes as it's commonly known that people with diabetes lose thier erections eventually. That's not the case right now, we have a good sex life. He is in his late 30's and I'm in my late 20's.
I just don't know what to do. I don't know if we should try it naturally for a few more months or if should save for IVF or if we should see some sort of specialist if yes then what cant kind? How can we have a baby?
